Where delirium and the irrational co-exist

Euripides’ works contain delirium and the irrational. Ferocity and a desire for peace emerge as well as savagery and a desire for the simple life. His play moves in contradictory directions in which emotions clash into each other, intact bodies are dismembered and beliefs are tested to the limit. This is a moral and aesthetic world that we are invited to journey through and which Marlene Monteiro Freitas raids to create her Bacantes – Prelúdio para uma Purga.

The common denominator in the works of this choreographer and dancer is their openness, impurity and intensity. In March, three years after it premiered at D. Maria II, she returns to plunge into this classical piece of theatre. A true struggle between appearance and dissimulation, split between the Apollonian and Dionysian.
